I'll say this. They've successfully replaced Paul Perkins. That much I'm sure about.
"It's about winning...We're not spending $62.5 million on Nate Solder, or spending the money on Patrick Ohmameh, and we're not trading for Alec Ogletree if we're in tear-down. We're not doing that. We've evaluated the roster. We've developed a plan moving forward. It's about winning now. I mean, who wants to lose? I don't." -Dave Gettleman

Beckham, Engram, Sheppard, Barkley are gonna make Eli's job real easy. If the OL can be even league average they are going to put up lots of points. Eli probably can finish his 2 year contract if these guys stay healthy. Then we'll worry about the future QB. They may even take a stab at Lauletta later in the draft.

I think Barkley is a great pick IF we draft some good OL players AND Shurmer and Shula design some good offensive schemes that are NOT totally predictable. Please no run run pass offenses. No more dink and dunk offenses. No more chuck and duck.
I’m not happy with this pick at all. I believe the Jets selected the best QB and player in the draft and, as a result, the Jets will be a better team than the Giants over the next 10 years. I also believe we will look back at the decision to pass on Darnold as a huge mistake for the Giants organization. Gettleman is a relic--a guy trapped in the past. In his press conference to defend the Barkley pick, he insulted the analytical approach to football in an incoherent way. This is what he had to say:
"I think a lot of that stuff is nonsense. I think it is someone who had decided to get into the analytics of it and went through whatever. Jonathan Stewart is in his tenth year and he has not lost anything. I don’t believe in that. I don’t care who you take, they can all get hurt."
No one, of course, can make sense out of such senseless comments. It is always reassuring to know that the Giants have a semi-coherent general manager. If you you intend to insult the analytical approach to football, as Gettleman intended, you should at least articulate your arguments clearly so that you don't come across as a buffoon.
While I believe the Jets got the more valuable player in Darnold, no one ultimately knows how this is going to work out. (1) I’ll be rooting for Barkley to be the next M.Faulk, B.Sanders, etc. If he is as good as some people say, he will be fun to watch. (2) Maybe Eli will have a better season next year and has a few big seasons left in him. (3) Maybe Webb, a guy who is easy to root for, can develop into something special.
Time to go OL in round two, get a blocker for Eli, Barkley, and company.

“We feel like we’re getting our third-round pick now.” --Dave Gettleman after taking Sam Beal in the supplemental draft.
freide: As buts go I would put flowers in the Ron Dayne's class.

uther99: The Oline is just too bad to compete. If you max protect, how many WRs go out, 2? That's 2 WRs against 7 defenders, good luck.
