But hey, Familia for a salary dump, the 3-headed GM is lost, the Manager is lost, Cespedes might need surgery and Thor has an illness only a 5 year old gets.
How does MLB not step in and recognize the Mets are damaging the MLB brand? My gosh, money ball refers to the small market A's as below 50 feet of [email protected] and they just made a deal with the Mets where they took on more money.
The new GM will have to figure out if the Mets should rebuild or compete. If they rebuild, they should trade Degrom and the other starters. But they have such a good starting staff (with Wheeler's development) they could compete next year if they can find a few positions players. They need a catcher, 2b, and CF. They also need to add another middle of the order bat, preferably a guy who can play 2b, CF, or 3b (Frazier is signed for only one more year).
Problem is, while the Mets have a championship caliber starting staff, will the owners spend the money to address their position player weaknesses? Manny Machado would solve a lot of problems but I doubt the Mets go there.
They don't have to worry about first base. Bruce and D.Smith can compete in spring training for the job but Peter Alonso is probably the long term first baseman for the Mets. He might need a little more time in the minor leagues, however.
“Going from Reese to Gettleman is like exchanging tickets on the Titanic for tickets on the Lusitania." --Nico
Cano is 36 years old, missed most of last season due to a suspension, is known for his bat which is aging and lack of hustle and somehow the Mets might include their 19 year old stud named Kelenic who they were in position to draft b/c of how horrible they played.
Old, breaking down and expensive for Young, prosperous and cheap

uther99: The Oline is just too bad to compete. If you max protect, how many WRs go out, 2? That's 2 WRs against 7 defenders, good luck.

GordonG: Homer, I hope you get good news this week. Like Troy, I also beat cancer. I was fortunate that it was caught very early. So early that it could have easily been diagnosed as benign.
