Giants suspended CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for conduct detrimental to the team.
According to those involved, Rodgers-Cromartie came into the facility Wednesday and got into a heated altercation with coach Ben McAdoo. It reportedly had much to do with his role on defense. DRC has been playing inside, covering the slot, but wants to play outside after he briefly was given the chance to in Week 5 against the Chargers at the expense of Eli Apple. The coaching staff apparently wants to go back to Apple, and DRC decided to leave the team. It's a sinking ship for the G-Men. Look for Ross Cockrell to pick up the available snaps.
It's amazing what a 11-5 record and a slick new hair cut will do to a person. I was thinking the other day what was different between last years defense and this years. Why the big drop off, especially our inability to stop the run.
1) Cromartie was removed from covering the outside #2 WR
2) Goodson is manning the middle
3) No Jonathan Hankins
4) Darian Thompson is playing FS
Your taught to listen to your coaches, but when your 0-5, $%^&! hits the fan and people start looking for ways to win and reasons why we're not. I'd be pissed if I were cromartie. I couldn't understand why they insisted on playing Apple on the outside when you have a lights out veteran in cromartie sitting on the roster. This allowed big plays to be made against the defense. I'd rather have Apple on the inside and cover the slot and allow smaller plays instead on the outside allowing TD's.
And the team is officially imploding. McAdoo neeeds to go, he lost them.
A few posters on here felt TC lost the team too....cant keep every one on the team happy, losing breeds contempt, if he has indeed lost the team I would think they would make spags the interim coach.
I remember that very well but the difference is Coughlin had a resume that Mac doesn't have. We knew Coughlin was capable based on past performance. Some of the things we're seeing from the Giants today are reminiscent of the early '90s and a HC that completely lost control in his second year.
I do think the Giants way is to let the captain go down with the ship. So I expect Mac will be coaching at least through December. He's got 11 games to fix this thing.
Some additional information on CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and the Giants: According to a source close to the situation, the issues with Rodgers-Cromartie began last Friday, when the cornerback walked out of the team's "recovery day" session. During Sunday's loss to the Chargers, the source said, Rodgers-Cromartie slammed his helmet down on the sideline, left the team while the game was in progress and went to the locker room with what teammates and coaches understood was the intent to leave the stadium. The Friday and Sunday incidents led to a meeting Tuesday between Rodgers-Cromartie and head coach Ben McAdoo in which McAdoo told Rodgers-Cromartie that he would be inactive for this Sunday's game in Denver and fined for walking out of Friday's recovery session. Rodgers-Cromartie was to participate in practice this week as normal but would be one of the seven game-day inactives Sunday in Denver. The source went on to say that Rodgers-Cromartie showed up for meetings Wednesday but left the defensive team meeting while it was ongoing, cleaned out his locker and left the team facility. At that time, the team made the decision to suspend him. At this time, a source said, the Giants have no plans to release or trade Rodgers-Cromartie and instead plan to welcome him back with a clean slate once he has served his punishment.
Clean slate? Sorry I don't think finishing out a 4-12 season is going to clean this slate. And if they don't get any WR 4-12 is generous....maybe impossible. So why would DRC be happy to finish off a season like this watching a kid he is better than take his snaps, knowing full well he's gone at the end of this season? At best he'll just ignore McAdoo the rest of the year....helluva way to run a "team".
This is one of the strangest stories I have heard in a while out of the Giants. My first question in all of this, where is Spags? He is the defensive coordinator. I cannot believe that he would want to field an inferior DB (Apple) against a team's second-best WR (often on the outside) in most cases. DRC is the better play until proven otherwise. And how much is it trying to justify Apple's draft selection? Just a mess that needs a housecleaning at year end.
Letting Mac blow up all by him lonesome. Spag's will be in the DRIVERS seat.. come December.
Who said 4-12...are you SERIOUS!!!! Outside 2...no more
We'll have TOP 3 pick in draft. If you're gonna IMPLODE... JUST DO IT!
I could see him possibly filling in as the interim if things truly go south for Mac, however, Spag's defense has been a no show this year, hardly a ringing endorsement for him to take over as the permanent HC. Spags has some culpability in this whole DRC debacle Mac is just bearing the brunt as he is in charge.
I think Cromartie is much underrated. They say he doesn't play the run well ,but based on my limited observations he's good at that too. I've seen him play hurt. Up to this instance I would have rated him as a top top corner and actually better than Jenkins who gets more ink. Even the flexibility to go in the slot is an asset. If we let him go nect year, it's just one more position to fill. he was no problem to this year and I'm as inclined to lay that on Mc as anybody. But there's so much we don't know about what's going on that only time will sort things out.
