8. The Giants wanted Jabrill Peppers The day Dorsey called to ask for Beckham, Gettleman was in the midst of taking a ton of heat for letting safety Landon Collins walk in free agency, and needed a save. Browns' first-round safety Jabrill Peppers was the answer.
Gettleman was adamant about acquiring Peppers in the deal to make up for the loss of the his three-time Pro Bowl safety, who agreed to a six-year, $84 million deal with the Redskins.
The Browns didn't want to let Peppers go. They like his attitude, his work ethic and his infectious personality.
But they certainly weren't going to let him stand in the way of acquiring Beckham, and the Giants felt he might fare better in their 3-4 defense.
It’s hard to see OBJ go. He’s been one of the few exciting things to happen to the Giants during this awful stretch of losing. But the Giants were still losing with OBJ. And no it’s not just his fault. That comes down to just a bad team. The Giants have a lot of holes. They got 3 players for 1 out of this trade. 3 players contribute more than 1 in the ultimate team sport. It’s up to Gettleman to make sure he hits on both the picks they got and that Peppers becomes a good, contributing player. All 3 of these players will also come cheaper than OBJ combined. Time will tell if this was a good trade or not. Browns as of now got the guaranteed superstar while the Giants got a potential pro bowl S and 2 unknowns. So Browns win right now. To be continued...
- the media who guesses at the inside info. They have the “scoop”right? Jay Glazier just got off the phone with his own imagination and the rest run with the opera as fact.
- the fickle fans. Like a weatherman hyping a storm, this mob needs to jump on an emotional train for fear they might be left behind regardless of the train’s direction. Got to be there. Trained and schooled by ESPN and demonstrates one adamant direction followed by flip flopping to contradict itself without any accountability.
- the players. Somewhere around 2011 to the present it was discovered they aren’t very good.
Stories about players which aren’t very good is a boring draw but add in a soap opera and you get attention. Now they parted ways with one of the few talented players and we read about another Imaginary “scoop” from our insiders who must have missed their calling and could have become FBI detectives. Gosh he was so great the media and fickle forgot he wasn’t even playing in 2017 but it’s a good thing we got a new coach b/c with Beckham and another amazing skill position the Giants managed 5 wins. If we only had a QB . . . and solutions to fill the remaining bakers dozen holes but that’s not as entertaining as a soap opera. On to the mocks where the inside scoop know the Giants want a QB but they don’t. Oooh, stay tuned.

“We didn’t sign Odell to trade him . . . but things change. Another team made an offer we couldn’t refuse.”
“Trust me, we got a plan,” the Big Blue GM said. “Everybody wants answers now.”

uther99: The Oline is just too bad to compete. If you max protect, how many WRs go out, 2? That's 2 WRs against 7 defenders, good luck.

GordonG: Homer, I hope you get good news this week. Like Troy, I also beat cancer. I was fortunate that it was caught very early. So early that it could have easily been diagnosed as benign.
