Because the game is moving too fast for him--too many things to focus on at once. When the game slows down for him as he gains experience, he can isolate the fumbling problems and get it fixed.
Can anyone name one QB who didn't make it as a starter due to fumbling problems? It is a correctable problem, but not so easy to correct in a rookie season when the game is moving too fast for the QB.

1) He's holding the ball too long. 2) The offensive line sucks 3) He's still learning how to pick up disguised blitzes. 4) He doesn't have a QB Coach to help him work on this correctable problems.
And yet in spite of it all he's been pretty amazing, a QBR of around 90, 15 TD's and almost 2,000 yards passing. Compare that to the rookie season from the much heralded 2018 class or the rookie seasons of amongst others Eli, Peyton, Aikman, Montana or Tom Freaking Brady and maybe that will make you feel better, and maybe even post something positive about the guy.

Some of the reason he's fumbling a lot is that he keeps his focus down field almost entirely. That's a good thing, because, a QB who's focus is just on the rush, isn't a good QB. He does need to develop better pocket awareness, but he probably won't get significantly better at pocket awareness and an internal clock, until he can focus on it during the off-season. (BTW, internal clock and pocket awareness go hand in hand. Sometimes a QB can ignore his internal clock if he has enough pocket awareness to feel the OL is holding the rushers off in front of him. That's when you see the statue QB standing back there for 6 to 8 seconds before throwing. The internal clock needs to be going off when rushers get pushed past the QBs field of peripheral vision. Then, you get a 3 count and better be releasing the ball or on the move to greener pastures.)
That said, I'm happy that DJ sees the field. Most rookie QBs don't see the field, and that's much harder to develop.
Everyone, including you Cali knew he was going to have ups and downs this season. Especially with an under-performing OL. This season is about getting experience for DJ and the other rookies. Nothing else.
You get a rep for putting the ball on the ground and that's what the defense will focus on. Jamal Adams didn't even try to sack DJ last week. He could have buried him on that takeaway.
Yeah, why sack a guy when you know you can make him cough up the ball instead?
"The thing that makes him (Saquon Barkley) different is he has the feet and speed of a little guy, with the power and strength of a big guy," Gettleman said. "That’s what makes him so darn unique. He’s different. It’s like he was touched by the hand of God, frankly."

I say a lot of positive things about Jones, i wasn't a fan of the pick but he's the QB so i want him to be great.
He is reasonably mobile, he is accurate, he is tough so those are all positives , i am just asking , why hasn't the fumbling improved . Are the QB coach , and Shula/Shurmur working on it ? What exactly are they doing to fix the biggest problem he has ? I remember when Tiki had the terrible fumbling problem ,then Coughlin came in and there were a lot of reports on what Coughlin was doing to address the problem. Maybe if a new HC comes in and brings a new staff they will have more success .
Well all things seemed to lead to the same Temple, the place where the head coaches are dramatically be-headed. Did you know, the modern research suggest that the head after the guillotine lives for a few minutes and the eyes even blink.? Just thought I'd throw that in. It's even rumored the two enemies who would guillotined at the same time showed bite marks when the basket was empty. So let's see how this plays. Daniels, is tough, incredibly accurate, mobile, can make all the throws, has leadership ability and seems, at least of this writing, to be almost uncanny for a rookie getting in his progressions. He fumbles, the coaches are to blame, it's another reason to guillotine even if we have to use separate baskets. One might more easily, and more rationally, credit the coaches for all those admirable traits than condemn them for a trait, that almost certainly will take an offseason to correct.
After just 8 games do we really expect Jones to be a finished product? His fumbles seem to be a combination of issues, so unlike Tiki's problem, it won't be fixed quickly, with nothing more than an adjustment.
Jones is like most rookie. Trying to think 100 things at once and just holds the ball to long. After about 3 one thousands he needs to learn to just get out of the pocket and make some throws on the move. Plus he isn’t used to a pocket with all that traffic
