Well, he's a 5th round pick. A typical project player. He has very nice fluid hips and nice efficient feet. Very nice athletic scores. He's surprisingly quick and efficient, I can't stress that enough. He'll be a nice addition to compete. I wouldn't expect him to be playing in any games this season but I love the fluid movement that he has. Just get those NFL instincts and he could become something.
Okay, he's a 3-4 ILB and works well against the run. He'd not be a good 4-3 LB but in our system he might do well. There is a theme to some of the picks emerging. Smart guys who are ballers. He has those traits.
Connelly worked his way up the depth chart over the past four years at Wisconsin, stepping in for injured senior Jack Cichy in 2017. The Minnesota native was named honorable mention All-Big Ten as a junior after leading the Badgers with 88 tackles, 11 for loss, three sacks, and an interception in 14 games (six starts). He got the full-time gig in 2018, garnering third-team All-ACC honors with 89 tackles, 10 for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble. He started 8 of 14 games played in 2016, piling up 59 stops, seven for loss, and an interception. Connelly contributed as a redshirt freshman, as well, making 15 tackles, one for loss, during the 2015 season. His cousin, Anders Lee, plays in the National Hockey League.
Overview Connelly fits the Wisconsin mold of tough, productive linebackers who end up lacking either size or speed as NFL projections. He’s not big enough to play SAM and he’s not fast enough to play WILL so he’ll end up as a slightly smaller/slower 3-4 or 4-3 inside backer. He does a decent job of playing around his deficiencies and finding ways to make impact tackles and he’s fairly instinctive is zone coverage. He has the demeanor and play traits to become a solid special teamer with average backup potential.
Strengths Former walk-on who still plays like he's earning a spot each game Functional short-area burst Recognizes blocking scheme and where he can exploit it Makes quick reads and races ahead of climbing blocks Disciplined to guard against cutbacks Above-average awareness of both quarterback and targets from zone Has shown willingness to play and put off surgery Takes the fight to blockers before they can get up on him Went to Wisconsin.
Weaknesses Turns shoulders and runs rather than using controlled scrape Is coming off of a season-ending surgery Pursuit speed from sideline to sideline doesn't hold up Had the angle and couldn't catch Shea Patterson on a long run Tries too hard to shoot gaps and gets out of position Takes the worst of it on collisions with iso blockers Blocks can stick to him longer Below-average athleticism to overcome misreads Drawn out of position by misdirection

The median percentage of games started for players drafted in rounds 4 through 7 was extremely low, never rising above 7% of games played over the last 5 years.
That's what I know.
Then why bother even paying attention to the draft today? Or furthermore providing your $.02 and making up a statistic. I'd love to see the source.
Why do the Giants even bother even making day 3 picks?
Ever hear of Harry Carson? - He was a 4th rounder Ever hear of Antonio Pierce? UDFA Ever hear of Gary Reasons? - 4th Rounder Ever hear of Jesse Armstead? - 8th Round Ever hear of Brian Kelley? 14th round
Terrill Hanks, TJ Edwards and Mack Wilson have 3rd round grades

rodney27: You're right about the fumbling problem, tl65taog. I just don't think it can be fixed. He had in preseason, has it at a record pace now, and had the same problem at Duke. If he hasn't fixed it in all that time...I just don't know if he can.
