I think it's realistic to see Jenkins being traded before the end of the season. BTW... Bethea will still have another year on his contract. There's no chance the Giants can find a trade partner for him.
Note to Dave Gettleman… please remember that free agent buying sprees don't always work. Let's take a look back at the offseason that was, 2016.
What can $193.75 million get you? The foundation of a darn good defense, that’s what. General manager Jerry Reese had plenty of salary cap space to use, but it takes more than a fully loaded checkbook to guarantee money well-spent. Reese takes plenty of heat for what he did not do to augment this roster — offensive line, tight end, fullback come to mind — and he should be credited for targeting three players in their prime — Jenkins is 28, Harrison 27 and Vernon 26 — and injecting them into the bloodstream of his defense.
It’s a ways away. Or is it. Heck we are in October already and before you know it we will be pulling out Christmas decorations. It’s early but fun. 2020 offseason maybe a good one for the Giants. Having 4 years of play without a veteran QB really gives the Giants a ton of freedom.
Spotrac has the Giants just over 67 million in cap space in 2020. My guess is Ogletree, Jenkins, Martin and Ellison are not worth the money owed and probably get cut.
Jenkins 14,750,000.00 dead hit 3.5 saving 11,250,000.00 Ogletree 11,750,000.00 dead hit 3.5 saving 8,250,000.00 Ellison. 6,250,000.00. Dead hit 1.2 saving 5,000,000.00 Martin. 5,966.990.00 dead hit 1.166 saving 4,900,000.00
That saves 29,400,000.00 and change on 67 million of cap space That’s around 96,000,000.00 of cap room. Not including potential cap increases of about 11 million giving the Giants potential 107 million of cap space
All 4 of those guys are very likely going to get cut. Resign Golden no problem. Next priority is a solid corner in his prime opposite of Baker unless Ballentine or Beal can get on the field and show corner isn’t a priority. How about an upgrade at RT. How about adding a WR like AJ Green. He doesn’t have to dominate but Green, Tate, Shepherd and Slayton will sure look good out there especially if the Giants can improve the offensive line more.
Maybe a ILB to team up with Connelly or a FS. Giving the a Giants freedom in the draft

rodney27: You're right about the fumbling problem, tl65taog. I just don't think it can be fixed. He had in preseason, has it at a record pace now, and had the same problem at Duke. If he hasn't fixed it in all that time...I just don't know if he can.
