I think it is a good signing. One year contract for up to 7.5mm. He can get the Pats to the SB and his presence allows Stidham to benefit from his experience. If it works out well, Newton gets a big contract next year.

Smart move by the Pats. They stay in contention. Also, the Pats with less than $10M total tied up in QB's is kinda scary, they'll build a strong roster around that space. Not sure Stidham is the long term answer but Cam Newton is a pretty good near term answer.
This is a good move skill-wise. It remains to be seen if Cam can check his attitude and become a team leader under Belichick. The rap on Newton has never been on his ability. He is no longer a running QB and (with a few painful transition years) has proven that he can be an effective mobile QB. Now, he needs to be come more of a team leader and less of an attention grabber (on and off the field)… I don't know if this will work-out, but it will be very interesting to see Cam Newton starting for the Patriots.
I believe (1), (2), and (3): (1) Stidham sucks, the Pats were never going to start him. (2) Brady is washed up. (3) Newton was probably not the Pats first choice--they may have been targeting someone in the draft--but he is better than a washed up Brady and Stidham isn't an NFL starting QB.

rodney27: You're right about the fumbling problem, tl65taog. I just don't think it can be fixed. He had in preseason, has it at a record pace now, and had the same problem at Duke. If he hasn't fixed it in all that time...I just don't know if he can.
