Message to All Members: Making the Fan Forum Better

Sounds like the forum  I stopped dealing with after over twenty years. Almost everyone that made it a good forum stopped posting there and there’s nothing worthwhile going on anymore.

Just wanted to chime in as a longtime poster on this site. Civility really isn't all that hard. I remind myself that I am simply a Giants fan. All I have invested in them is loyalty (since 1967) and my good wishes. They do not know me, nor I any of them. They put no money in my pocket, nor do they cost me very much. No matter how one-sided or devastating a loss they suffer, I may feel bad but it does me no direct physical or mental harm. Every win lifts my spirits, and that is really my only reward.
I fully understand that the experience of others is different. For some fans and posters, the Giants are an obsession or larger than life. That's OK, and I would rather commensurate with you in bad or good times than argue, fight with, or attack you. I see "civility" as a matter of perspective: the more I realize that the Giants are a fun pastime, the easier it is to take everyone's reaction as it comes. I have even gone as far as to stand up for one consistently harsh critic even though we have sparred in the past. Yes, I do get emotional on game-day threads, and I'm working on that, but in the final analysis, this is just a game. Before attacking anyone and drenching the board in negativity, take stock of what place the Giants hold in the importance of things in your life. If I had the choice in 2019 of the Giants going 0-16 and losing every game by forty points or my wife surviving cancer instead of succumbing to it, I know what I would have chosen.

I have been guilty of this and I want to apologize to everyone. I just love this team and sometimes get a bit out of hand. I’ll do better. Love you all. Best damn forum out there.
