The draft is over. I think most of us are pretty happy with the draft. Myself I need to learn to pump the brakes a little. I have a tendency to find all good in the picks hoping someone becomes a franchise altering stud. Nabers maybe that guy. My personal 2 favorites besides Nabers is Nubian and Johnson. Let’s not forget some other huge moves the Giants did in the offseason and tie it all together
First of all. New defensive coordinator Bowen.
This is a guy that did a lot with little with the Titans. A zone heavy play caller that keeps things moving and simple so his players can play fast. Bowers defenses are always physical and difficult to run against. Players like drafted Phillips, Banks, Hawkins and Flott all have the skill set to play in space and close. That’s what Bowens all about. This maybe the biggest piece to the puzzle that most forget about
Offensive line coach Bricillo
This is another big piece. I don’t think our line was bad because of bad drafting or free agency signings but bad coaching and development. Bricillo is another coach that did well with no home named players with the raiders line. The group was consistent and solid. Hopefully he can get Neal playing like a 1st round pick with an improved JMS, Runyon and others
Don’t forget about the trade for Burns. I believe he is only 25 or 26 years old too. In this defense with 2 pass rushers on the outside Burns may be able to be a top sack artist in the NFL. He has never had another guy opposite of him. Playing with Thibodeaux. Burns and Thibodeaux may both take off. Don’t forget about Lawrence up the middle and Ozulari in the rotation. Do I smell a NASCAR set with Thibodeaux, Burns, Ozulari, Lawrence?
Nubin maybe the missing Piece. Similar build as McKinney but Nubin is much more instinctive. This is something that I love about Nubin. His ability to understand what he sees on tape and betting the receiver to the ball. Nubin is a ball hawk and is very instinctive. With Burns and company putting the heat on. Nubin maybe the teams top player to flip the field
I would like to see a veteran corner brought in though. This is a very young group
Okereke and McFadden should be able to play downhill and fast with this front. Some saved veterans are also in the mix up front
Theo Johnson is a Waller build TE standing 6’6” tall with 260 pounds of muscle behind it. Kid moves well and can block. He is a better receiver than advertised. The only TE I liked as much was TCU Wiley. Happy Johnson is here.
Now can Nabers open up this offense? The key to this other than the Oline is Hyatt. Hyatt needs to be on the field and be a threat. With a big guy like Johnson, speed of Hyatt and the quickness of Robinson. Jones should be able to find open weapons. Nabers in theory will demand a double. That will reduce the blitzing and help free up some easy reads underneath. Again. In theory. The Giants also need some production in the run game. Tracey was a good addition but I would have loved to see a big, fast and physical down hill runner in this offense. I would have liked to see them trade back into 4 and draft Davis. He would have been perfect with Singletary back there. Find a seem and hit it fast and hard.
Let’s see how this plays out. I would love to see a veteran corner added to this group and Lock really push Jones under center. Of course this OLine actually be good
